It converts pedal effort into hydraulic pressure for the braking system and is a key repair item when the pedal feels spongy, sinks slowly or fluid is escaping around the booster.

T4 vans are popular in New Zealand as campers and workhorses, and many are now well over twenty years old. Internal seals harden with age, so renewing the master cylinder is a common part of restoring confident, consistent braking.

Vehicle compatibility

Listed fitment data contains 59 T4-family entries, including Transporter T4 Bus, Van and Platform/Chassis, Multivan and California T4 Camper from about 1990 to 2004. Listed engines include the 1.8, 1.9 D/TD, 2.0, 2.4 D, 2.5, 2.5 TDI, 2.8 and 2.8 VR6, with Syncro versions also covered. The part listing references Polo, Fox and Golf, which are not supported by the fitment data.
